It’s common to feel a bit anxious coping if baby is late, but most babies arrive naturally between 39 and 42 weeks. If you’re past your due date, here’s how to cope:
- Monitor Baby’s Movements: Pay attention to your baby’s movements. If you notice a decrease in movement, contact your healthcare provider right away.
- Stay Active: Gentle exercise, like walking, can help encourage labor. It’s also good for keeping you energized and reducing stress. Be sure to talk to your doctor before trying anything intense.
- Induction Options: If you’re beyond 42 weeks, your doctor may discuss options for induction. This could include medications, breaking the waters, or other techniques to initiate labor.
- Stay Calm and Positive: It’s normal to feel anxious when the baby doesn’t arrive on schedule. Practice relaxation techniques, like deep breathing or meditation, to stay calm. Your healthcare provider is there to support you, so don’t hesitate to ask questions or express concerns.
- Prepare for Labor: Your provider may recommend monitoring your baby’s heartbeat, doing ultrasounds, or checking your cervix. Stay in touch with your healthcare team, and trust that they will guide you through the process.
