Seizures are abnormal electrical discharges in the brain that cause convulsions or loss of consciousness. They can be caused by a variety of factors, including fever, head injury, or neurological disorders.
Symptoms:
- Uncontrollable shaking or jerking movements
- Loss of consciousness or altered awareness
- Staring spells or confusion following the seizure
Treatment:
- Keep the child safe by clearing the area of any hazards.
- Place the child on their side and allow the seizure to run its course (usually less than 5 minutes).
- If the seizure lasts longer than 5 minutes, call for emergency help immediately.
