Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease (HFMD) is a viral illness commonly affecting young children, caused by the coxsackievirus. It leads to rashes on the hands, feet, and mouth.
Symptoms:
- Red rash with blisters on the hands, feet, and sometimes buttocks
- Sores or ulcers in the mouth
- Fever, sore throat, and reduced appetite
- Irritability and fatigue
Treatment:
- HFMD generally resolves on its own in about 7-10 days.
- Pain relievers (acetaminophen or ibuprofen) can help manage discomfort.
- Keep your child hydrated and avoid acidic or spicy foods that may irritate mouth sores.
