As you approach your due date, the third trimester is all about preparing your body and your baby for birth. Here’s how to stay healthy:
- Nutrition: Your baby’s organs are maturing, and they’re gaining weight rapidly. Keep eating nutrient-dense foods that provide vitamins, minerals, and protein. Focus on calcium-rich foods for bone development and iron to combat fatigue.
- Stay Active (But Don’t Overdo It): Exercise helps prepare your body for labor, but be sure to take breaks and avoid overexertion. Consider pelvic floor exercises to strengthen muscles for birth.
- Manage Swelling: Some swelling in the legs, feet, and hands is common in the third trimester. Avoid standing for long periods, and elevate your feet when possible.
- Prepare for Labor: Start thinking about your birth plan, discuss pain management options, and begin prenatal classes to learn more about the labor process.
- Monitor Your Baby’s Movements: Pay attention to how often your baby moves. If you notice a decrease in movement, contact your doctor immediately.
