Inverted or flat nipples are nipples that turn inward instead of pointing outward. It’s more
common than you might think and it doesn’t mean you won’t be able to breastfeed!
During pregnancy, your body goes through many changes, and sometimes, inverted nipples
become more prominent on their own. But if they don’t, there are simple techniques to help.
Prepare for Breastfeeding, Like:
● Gentle massage or stimulation
● Nipple shields or breast shells (your doctor or lactation consultant can guide you)
● Special exercises in later pregnancy, if recommended
If you’re unsure whether your nipples are inverted or how it might affect breastfeeding, it’s a
good idea to speak to your doctor early on.
At Borneo Mother & Child Hospital, we provide personalized lactation support and guidance, so
you feel confident and prepared when your baby arrives.
