Pink Eye (Conjunctivitis)
Pink eye is an infection or inflammation of the conjunctiva (the tissue that lines the eyelid and covers the white part of the eyeball). It is often caused by bacteria or viruses.
Symptoms:
- Redness or pinkness in the whites of the eyes
- Itchy or gritty feeling in the eye
- Watery discharge or crusty eyelids
- Sensitivity to light
Treatment:
- Bacterial conjunctivitis is treated with antibiotic eye drops.
- Viral conjunctivitis usually resolves on its own, but comfort measures such as cool compresses can help.
- Practice good hygiene to prevent spreading the infection.
