Pushing during labor is an intense yet rewarding experience. It’s the stage where you can finally meet your baby, but the technique used is crucial to making this phase as efficient and effective as possible. Rather than pushing with all your might, you want to focus on pushing with your abdominal muscles while maintaining control of your breathing.
Effective pushing often involves:
● Pushing with each contraction: When a contraction comes, it’s your body’s signal to push. Push for about 10 seconds, then take a deep breath and push again until the
contraction ends.
● Using gravity: Changing positions—such as squatting, kneeling, or leaning forward—can help make pushing easier by allowing gravity to assist.
● Relaxing in between: Resting and catching your breath between contractions is vital to maintaining your strength during the pushing phase.
At Borneo Mother & Child Hospital, we’ll provide guidance, positioning support, and encouragement to make your pushing phase as smooth and manageable as possible.
