Roseola
Roseola is a common viral infection in young children, usually caused by the human herpesvirus 6 (HHV-6). It is characterized by a high fever followed by a rash.
Symptoms:
- Sudden high fever lasting for 3-5 days
- A rash that appears after the fever subsides, often starting on the torso and spreading to the limbs
- Mild irritability and mild swelling of the eyelids
Treatment:
- There is no specific antiviral treatment for roseola.
- Managing symptoms with fever reducers (acetaminophen or ibuprofen) is recommended.
- Make sure your child stays hydrated and gets plenty of rest.
