When to Call Your Doctor

When to Call Your Doctor

It’s important to know when to contact your healthcare provider after giving birth. Here are some signs that warrant a call or visit to the doctor:

  • Heavy Bleeding: If you experience soaking through more than one pad an hour or pass large clots, it’s important to get medical attention immediately.
  • Severe Pain: If you’re experiencing intense pain that doesn’t improve with pain medication or feels abnormal, speak to your doctor.
  • Fever: A temperature above 100.4°F (38°C) may indicate an infection and requires medical attention.
  • Difficulty Breathing: If you have trouble breathing or notice swelling in your legs, arms, or face, it could indicate a complication.
  • Breastfeeding Problems: If you’re having difficulty breastfeeding or notice severe pain, redness, or cracking of the nipples, your doctor can provide advice and treatment.
  • Emotional Distress: If you experience feelings of sadness, anxiety, or depression that don’t seem to improve, it’s important to reach out for support.
